What tooth extraction involves
The tooth is removed under local anaesthetic, so the area is fully numb.
- Assessment. An examination and usually an X-ray confirm extraction is genuinely necessary and show the root shape.
- Anaesthetic. The area is numbed thoroughly. You feel firm pressure during the extraction, not pain.
- Removal. The tooth is eased out. Surgical removal is sometimes needed for impacted or broken teeth.
- Aftercare. You are given clear instructions on bleeding, eating and cleaning, which genuinely affect how well the socket heals.

How long does healing take?
