Replacing a missing tooth protects your bite, your remaining teeth, and your confidence. Two of the most common options are dental implants and bridges. Each has strengths, and the best choice depends on your mouth and priorities.
Dental implants
An implant replaces the tooth root with a titanium post and is topped with a crown. It stands alone without altering neighbouring teeth and helps preserve the jawbone. Treatment is staged over a few months to allow healing.
Dental bridges
A bridge anchors a replacement tooth to the neighbouring teeth. It is usually quicker than an implant and does not involve surgery, but the supporting teeth must be shaped to hold it.
Which should you choose?
- Implants suit those with enough healthy bone who want a standalone, long-lasting option.
- Bridges suit cases where the neighbouring teeth would benefit from crowns anyway, or where a quicker solution is preferred.
- Your dentist will assess bone, gum health, and the neighbouring teeth before recommending an option.
